Gentle Coaching Standard

By Rachael Williams

I said I have a gentle coaching style. Then someone called me out.

I was talking with someone recently and mentioned that I have a gentler style of coaching. I don't yell. I don't have "bootcamp" energy. I meet people where they are.

They looked at me and said, "You're not very gentle with yourself, though."

They weren't wrong.

I train hard. Too hard sometimes and I pay for it with longer and more dedicated recovery than I like. I show up consistently. I push myself in ways that would surprise people who only know my coaching voice. There's nothing soft about the standards I hold for my own body and my own progress.

So why is there a difference in what I expect from myself vs what I expect from others?

I think it's this: I'm not them, and they're not me. I push myself hard because I'm ready for it. My clients are building toward that. My job isn't to train them like I train myself, it's to meet them where they are.

The people I've seen transform, the ones who lose the weight and keep it off, who build real strength, who stop starting over every few months, they didn't get there because someone pushed them to the point of exhaustion.

They got there because they felt safe enough to keep showing up.

The standard I hold for myself works for me because of where I am in my journey. My clients are somewhere else in theirs. Gentle isn't less effective. It just meets people where they are instead of where I am.

If you've been waiting for that version of support, I want to tell you about my six-week Strength and Confidence Foundations program.

For $220, you get six weeks of personalized coaching built around your life. Strength training, habit work, and the mindset piece that most programs skip entirely. Direct access to me, a plan that fits your body and your schedule, and support that helps you follow through.

Reach out and tell me where you're at. I'd love to talk.
