The Messy Desk Version of Consistency

By Rachael Williams

A woman stopped to talk to me at a vendor event I was set up at this past weekend. At some point, she said something I hear more than almost anything else: sticking with it and being consistent is the hardest part.

I hear some version of that often from new clients, friends, people at events who just want to talk for five minutes. It's not a unique problem.

I think part of why it feels so hard is that most people are picturing the wrong thing when they picture "consistent." They're picturing a clean, matching gym outfit. A dedicated workout room. Four solid sessions a week, every week, no exceptions. Meals that look like the photos.

That's not what consistency actually looks like. It looks like a messy desk with the laptop still open from work. A yoga mat unrolled on the living room floor because that's where there was space. A workout done at home in leggings that don't match anything, squeezed in before the day gets away from you.

It looks like two workouts instead of the four you were hoping for. Not because you didn't care enough but because the week didn't cooperate and you showed up anyway with what you could.

The people who keep progressing are the ones who kept doing something on the weeks that weren't ideal.

If you've been waiting to feel more "ready" before you start, or waiting for a week that has enough time and energy to do it right, I'd love to talk about what this could look like for you as it actually is, not as it's supposed to be. You can fill out my inquiry form here.
